It’s the age-old question: do pineapples belong on pizza?
While that question is far above my pay grade, I am here to answer a similar question because this is a beer column.
Do pineapples belong in beer? Yes.
And for a bonus question, do habanero peppers belong in beer? Yes.
Honestly, you didn’t even need me for this one, as our friends from BNA Brewing Co. in Kelowna have already answered the question in the form of their newest beer.
The brewery says you can spice up your beer fridge with their latest creation, the Pineapple Habanero Wheat Ale.
“Pouring a hazy deep yellow, the pineapple purée imparts a natural sweetness and vivid tropical flavours,” the brewery explains.
"Habanero peppers are used sparingly to add just the right amount of heat, enhancing the beer’s complexity without overwhelming the palate."
BNA calls this beer “harmonious and refreshing,” noting that a pinch of salt balances the sweetness of the pineapple and the spice of the habanero to round out the flavours.
The Pineapple Habanero Wheat Ale comes in with 15 IBUs at 4.4% ABV, making it the perfect sessionable brew for a beautiful spring or summer day.
Now, here is where I’m going to take a moment to apologize, because for a second straight week it may be tough for some NowMedia readers to find this exciting creation.
BNA says it’s available in the tasting room and local liquor stores, which means Kelowna readers should be able to find it with ease.
Unfortunately, it may be a little harder to track down for our loyal readers in Penticton, Kamloops, Prince George and Victoria.
