$content = "
A recall for two brands of stoves that was originally issued 15 years ago was expanded this month.

According to the May 16 update, which was posted by Health Canada, the expanded recall involves certain models of Frigidaire and Kenmore Elite freestanding electric ranges with “smooth top cooking surfaces, rotary knobs, and digital readouts.”

The agency says the recall is being reissued to make “replacement moisture kits” available to consumers that own certain affected ranges and to provide alternative remedies.

The recall says the affected stovetops, which were manufactured from June 2001 to July 2009, can turn on “spontaneously” without being switched on, fail to turn off and/or heat to different temperatures.

The company reported that about 54,230 units of the affected products were sold in Canada, and another 203,000 were sold in the United States.

In Canada, since the original recall was issued in 2009, the company has received two reports that involved the ranges turning on without the controls being turned to the “on” position.

No injuries have been reported, however.

In the US, the company has received around 212 reports of the ranges “behaving erratically” including 14 reports of fire and eight reports of burns and smoke inhalation.

“Consumers should immediately contact Electrolux to, depending on the model, either obtain a free inspection and repair where possible, or an electronic gift card,” says Health Canada.

“Consumers whose ranges are not exhibiting any of the conditions this recall addresses may continue to use their range while awaiting repair and/or new range should they choose to purchase one.”

If your range is unrepairable, Health Canada says you will receive a $50 electronic gift card and reimbursement of up to $60 for the haul-away fee.

For more information, consumers can contact Electrolux toll-free by telephone at 888-845-9104, between 8:30 am to 8 pm ET, Monday through Friday, by sending an email, or visiting the company website.
